The Woman in the Crowd

I like a womyn with
a restless quality,
as if she pushes the boundaries of her gender's roles
with every step she takes.
as if the patriarchy
has dogged her heels
and she has been leading them a merry dance,
and though theyve learned a few new steps,
she will always be
out of their reach.

I like a womyn who
moves as if the tide
that rules her womb
also chooses
her route.

She is a flash of truth
on an ordinary morning;
to notice her is to waken,
a bit more,
to see a bit clearer,
to feel more truly.

I like a womyn who is
a question and an answer,
an invitation and an outsider,
who makes me write poetry simply because
her glance has fallen on me, like grace.

August 2011 'object'

You didnt object to sharing my
winter blankets
my cooking pots, or
my body.

Just the other bits of me
that did not fit
your just-so home away from home.

No matter how much I tried
to make them.

you didnt object outwardly
but with silences stretched
taut
to cover every exposed
space you supposed
I might slip into
unopposed.

So I pack my pots and
patchwork quilts and
post pubescent squidgy bits
and let myself out the
door
awkwardness
unfittedness
yours to duel or dance with
no more.

haiku 15th September 2014

What are poems for?
Transmuting lives into feelings;
water into wine.

Sunrise, train, haiku;
running over together,
distances stand still.

duality 17 July 2014

17 July 2014

You are the soft belly and bosom of the B,
I am the empty wreck of the W.

You are the lean power of the olympic L,
I am the hollowed out uterus of the H.

You are the nourishing apple of the A,
I am the indignant I.

You are the loving connection of the C,
I am the taut tension of the T.

You are the fighting cock of the K,
I am the everyday enabler of the E.

my poems are the puddle
after the rainbow has gone,
no hint of glory.

never

november 2013

when we fell together
into that dark, sacred night
and woke in the bright light
of dawn

i knew,
knowing always,
that I was not enough.

So I caught my breath
and plunged further, and deeper,
let go and climbed steeper
into wilderness

i knew,
knowing always,
that I was not enough.

But I loved you, and I loved me,
and I loved us...

...and got lost.

And found that you always knew,
knowing always,
even in our darkest, brightest, deepest, highest moments
that I was never enough for you.

old song for love long gone

november 2013

I was the river
and you the sea
why did your tide never turn to me?
why did your tide never turn to me?

You were the sun
and I the tree
Oh why did I lift my heart to thee?
Oh why did I lift my heart to thee?

You were the cage
and I set myself free
Oh why do I wander so restlessly?
Oh why do I wander so restlessly?
