new moon

seeds with unknown faces
a button
a swarm of shells
a long-ago crystal
three times
widdershins
and a gentle familiar winding through my legs
touching the earth with her nose
at the border of night and day
peace and certainty rising
steadily
while dark descends
and the heart makes music
a great tree
binding everything
we talk of plant medicine
and feeding each other
on common ground
everything settles into place

the three keep watch
upstairs
on the altar
and the birds say goodnight
