the other side of the hill

stretched thin
mind lurching through ideas like a drunk; foot aimed straight at the double pavement.
skin prickly in vague defense
behind me, the smooth path of yesterday snakes serene and shimmering
the stones bite into my feet today, the wind is pushy
my companions hung over.

A thorn tree; bright green offers partial shade. It is too far from the path.

and my anger is languid and hot to the touch, iridescent as a lizard in the sun.
